Ludwig Nuß
Ludwig Nuss grew up on a farm in south Germany where he began learning the euphonium and tuba before switching to the trombone. He later studied at the Cologne Music Conservatory under Jiggs Whigham, during which time he was involved in many commercial studio recordings working as a session musician. In 1991 he accepted a position with the West German Radio (WDR) Big Band in Cologne for one year after which he was a trombone soloist for the South German Radio (SDR) in Stuttgart until 1996. For the next six years he played with the EDR Big Band taking over as lead trombonist in 2002.
Ludwig is actively involved in the European jazz scene giving workshops and clinics throughout Europe. He has made various recordings with musicians such as Bob Brookmeyer, Bill Holman, Slide Hampton, Manny Albam, Phil Woods and many others. He has also appeared in many festivals worldwide from Los Angeles, New York, Berlin and Salzburg to Singapore. Recordings include “Hornplayers Can’t Eat Garlic” with Ingo Luis, “The Return of the Hornplayers”, “Jazzed Friends”, “On Stage”, “New Works”, “My Instrument is the Orchestra”, and many more.
