Ingo Luis
Ingo Luis graduated from high school in Mülheim in 1981 and went on to study the trombone at the Folkwang Conservatory in Essen until 1984. He then continued his studies at the Cologne Conservatory with various tutors including Jiggs Whigham, Axel Jungbluth and Michael Junghans. He also took private lessons with Erik van Lier, Jerry van Rooyen and Peter Herbolzheimer. From 1988-91, Luis was the bass trombonist for “Starlight-Express” in Bochum before moving on to positions in the Hagen Philharmonic Orchestra (1991-92) and the “Orchester der Beethovenhalle”, Bonn (1992-95). Since 1995 he has been the bass trombonist with the Cologne Radio Orchestra.
Various CD recordings produced, composed and recorded by Luis include “Hornplayers Can’t Eat Garlic” (EDR BigBand, Cologne, 1988), “The Return of the Hornplayers” (1997) and “The Spirit of Ingo Luis” (1997). Ingo Luis is experienced both in classical and jazz music as a trombone player and arranger. His compositions and arrangements are distinguished through stylistic variety, original instrumentation and rich harmonies.
