Jay Friedman
Jay Friedman attended Yale University on scholarship and later majored in composition at Roosevelt University. After the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and the Florida Symphony, he joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1962 and was appointed principal trombonist in 1964. He has been soloist with the CSO on several occasions.
Friedman has taught trombone privately for many years and his students hold positions in major orchestras. He currently serves as professor of Trombone and chairman of the Wind Department at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, and he has been artist-in-residence at Indiana University. He is also active as a conductor and the music director of The Symphony of Oak Park and River Forest. His conducting career has included guest appearances with several orchestras worldwide.
