Born in 1966 as the son of a professional trombonist, he started playing at an early age. Already as a 19 year old Steen became a full time member of the Danish Radio Big Band, a post he has held since. Performing as a sideman as well as a leader of his own groups he also displays his talents in composing and arranging. Beside all this he finds time to be artistic director and adviser for The Regimental Band of his Royal Highness the Prince as well as being teacher at the music academies in Esbjerg and Odense. Steen Nikolaj Hansen appeared as a soloist on the International Trombone Festival in Helsinki in 2003.
